February's Delights

Our 'Cheese of the Month' for February is the wonderfully creamy French Neufchâtel & ties in brilliantly with Valentine's day as it is presented in the shape of a heart. Priced at £5.75 each, it's always a winner.

This is a soft, slightly crumbly, mould-ripened cheese made using unpasteurised cow's milk. One of the oldest cheeses in France, its production in the region of Normandy is believed to date back to the 6th century. It looks similar to Camembert, with a dry, white, edible rind, but the taste is saltier and sharper. It has the aroma and taste of mushrooms. Unlike other soft-white-rinded cheeses, Neufchâtel has a lovely grainy texture. It is typically matured for 8–10 weeks.

Recipes Using Neufchâtel

-A stunning centre piece on any cheese board, goes very well with our jars of rich fruit purees which are available in the Deli all year round.

-Try as a starter baked a little in the oven, then placed onto mixed rocket & spinach leaves with a drizzle of balsamic dressing.

-Add to cooked celeriac or potatoes with a little cream, butter, nutmeg & white pepper for an awesome mash. Team with tuna steaks or pork chops.

-Mix into macaroni cheese or mushroom risotto for extra depth of flavour.

I Love Merlot, Australia

Also on February's menu is a smooth, elegant Australian Merlot. This is a medium bodied red with an inviting, round palate. Ripe blackberry & raspberry fruit flavours. Whilst ready to enjoy now, I Love has cellaring potential in a cool, dry environment. It is best served at room temperature & partners wonderfully with red meat dishes. Perfect for those cosy winter nights in!
